American Express Mumbai Centurion Lounge Closes From July 1, 2026

American Express has confirmed the closure of its exclusive Centurion Lounge at Mumbai Airport’s Terminal 2 Domestic Departures, effective July 1, 2026. Eligible Platinum and Centurion Card Members will instead receive access to the Adani Business Class Lounge, alongside upcoming Membership Rewards transfer adjustments and guest access updates.

Mumbai Centurion Lounge Closure & Alternative Access

On July 1, 2026, the dedicated American Express Centurion Lounge at Mumbai Airport (BOM) Terminal 2 will close its doors. Driven primarily by airport operational modifications, this closure marks the end of one of India's most exclusive cardholder lounges. Following the shutdown, only three Centurion Lounges will remain in Asia: Delhi (DEL), Hong Kong (HKG), and Tokyo Haneda (HND).

To ensure continuous lounge benefits, eligible Platinum and Centurion Card Members travelling through Terminal 2 Domestic Departures will receive access to the Adani Business Class Lounge, regardless of their class of travel. This lounge also serves Air India Business Class passengers, maintaining premium airport hospitality despite the loss of the standalone AmEx facility.

Etihad Guest Exits Membership Rewards Program

In addition to the lounge changes, American Express is removing Etihad Guest Miles from its Membership Rewards (MR) points transfer portfolio.

  • Deadline: Card Members must initiate transfers of MR points to Etihad Guest by 11:59 PM IST on June 30, 2026.
  • Post-Deadline: Transfers to the Etihad Guest loyalty program will be permanently discontinued on July 1, 2026.

Centurion Lounge Guest Access Rules Change

Starting July 8, 2026, American Express is tightening guest access guidelines for Centurion Lounges globally:

  • Guest Limit: Complimentary guest access drops from two guests to one guest for Platinum Personal and Platinum Business Card Members.
  • Flight Criteria: All accompanying guests must travel on the same flight as the primary Card Member to gain entry.
  • Layover Constraints: Card Members must arrive within 5 hours of their connecting flight during a layover. Same-day round-trip itineraries are not eligible as connecting flights.
Bottom Line: While American Express faces temporary headwinds in India, it remains a valuable ecosystem. Core products like the AmEx Platinum Travel Credit Card continue to deliver excellent returns for milestone spenders, and the Platinum Reserve offers strategic utility. However, the combination of halted new card acquisitions, subdued offers, and lounge devaluations makes it harder to stay bullish. As competitors like HSBC step up with aggressive rewards, AmEx needs to actively reassure its loyal Indian customer base of its long-term commitment to the region.
